Microneedling

Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure that improves skin appearance by stimulating the production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid using very fine needles.

This procedure is ideal for specific skin concerns such as fine lines/wrinkles, open pores, skin laxity, scarring, stretch marks and superficial pigmentation.

How does it work?

Microneedling rapidly delivers 1000s of micro surgical needle insertions. This procedure generates a natural healing response within the skin, and the production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid is stimulated. This process leads to healthier skin, in both appearance and function.

It is also known as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), Dermarolling or Skin Needling.

What are the benefits?

The collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid production stimulated by microneedling can improve skin health and appearance, and provide excellent results for:

·       Open pores and superficial pigmentation

·       Fine lines and wrinkles, skin laxity

·       Scarring and stretch marks

·       Dull, tired skin

When will I start to see the results?

Most patients notice an improvement after the first 2 weeks and report their skin feels smoother, softer and looks fresher; but the real changes occur from about 12 weeks. Skin quality continues to improve for up to 9 months!

How long do results last?

The optimum results are achieved over a course of between 3 and 5 treatments, 4-6 weeks apart, with a one off ‘top-up’ treatment after 6 months and at 6 monthly intervals going forwards.

Does it hurt?

This treatment is well tolerated by patients. To ensure your comfort, we do apply a topical anaesthetic cream to numb the skin prior to treatment and many patients describe it as quite pleasant and relaxing.

What do I need to do before my appointment?

We recommend that you do not drink alcohol the night before your treatment and caffeine on the day of your treatment as it can increase your risk of bruising.

It is important you tell us about any skin conditions, medicines or dietary supplements during your consultation as some medicines can adversely affect the way the treatment works or increase your risk of bruising.

What do I need to do after the treatment?

Immediately after treatment your skin may be pink. This will resolve over a few hours but it may take 3 to 4 days for the skin to return to a normal colour. Make up can be worn from the following day and an SPF of at least 30 should be worn daily during the course of the treatment.

Full aftercare, including appropriate skincare, will be provided by your practitioner following treatment.

You are advised to avoid alcohol, exercise and extremes in temperature for 48 hours after the treatment. Do not use hair dyes for a week following treatment.

Is it safe?

Since this treatment relies on a natural skin healing process, it is considered very safe when performed by a trained medical practictioner

Am I suitable?

All procedures are subject to a complimentary consultation where your individual needs and suitability will be assessed.
